Graduate in Medicine and Surgery (1984), Specialized in Neurology (1988), he is currently Full Professor in
Psychophysiology and in Cognitive and Rehabilitative Neuropsychology at the Dept. of Psychology of the University of
Campania ‘Luigi Vanvitelli’.
Former Director of the Dept. of Psychology of the University of Campania ‘Luigi Vanvitelli’ (2018-2024).
Prof. Luigi Trojano is involved in Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology and published more than 300 full-length
papers on international peer-reviewed scientific journals, besides books and book chapters both in Italian and English.
His main research interests are: dementia, semantic amnesia, executive functions, mental imagery, constructional
apraxia, memory and visuospatial defects, and neuropsychological rehabilitation.
Now he is currently involved in the investigation of neural bases of action, and of visuospatial skills by means of
modern neurofunctional methods (functional magnetic resonance, transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct
current stimulation).
Prof. Trojano is among the founders of the Italian Society of Neuropsychology, and is a member of the International
Neuropsychological Symposium, and of the Italian Neurological Society.
Further current research grants: -Principal Investigator of the project ‘Longitudinal study on the effect of dopaminergic therapy and deep brain
stimulation on moral cognition in patients with Parkinson’s disease by means of newly designed Italian test’ funded by
Italian Ministry of University and Research PRIN 2022 (Project ID: 2022E2NTBL; Euro 210.225). -Head of a research Unit of the project ‘The insula between interoception and abstract thinking’ funded by Italian
Ministry of University and Research PRIN 2022-PNRR grant (Project ID: P20228X7R5_02; Euro 250.000).
