Università degli Studi di Bari - Aldo MoroProf. Antonio Scilimati obtained a degree with honors in Chemistry (1982). Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin (USA) (1987-88). Four years as Technical Director/Qualified Person at the MerckSerono plant in Bari, manufacturer of recombinant drugs. At the University of Bari (Italy) he is Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry where he holds an advanced course in pharmaceutical and toxicological chemistry. In the "Life Sciences", he carries out research using the theranostic approach with cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 targeted as a new biomarker and therapeutic target in oncology and neuroinflammation. Currently, his main scientific interest is related to the development of activators of the human mitochondrial protease ClpP, responsible for the degradation of damaged and misfolded proteins that form in neurodegenerative diseases and many types of cancer, including pediatric diffuse midline glioma. PI of various projects financed by national and European competitive tenders and first inventor of various national, European and trans-European patents.
