Recruited_researcher “Neurodegeneration, trauma and stroke – MNESYS”
San Raffaele | IRCCSDr. Marta Russo was responsible for the study of molecular and cellular mechanisms at the basis of neurodegenerative diseases from the first years of activity during the PhD course in Biology molecular, cellular and environmental (2019-2023) obtained at the Cell Biology laboratory of the University of the Studies of Roma Tre. His thesis work has focused on the study of the pathogenic mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease (AD), related to exposure of Magnetite, a specific air pollutant. In this on this occasion, Dr. Marta Russo acquired skills in studying the neurodegenerative processes common to many diseases. Since 2024, Dr. Russo has been carrying out research at the direct Experimental Neurophysiology Laboratory from Dr. Barbara Picconi, whose research team studies the role through electrophysiological and biomolecular techniques oxidative stress and inflammatory processes involved in neurodegeneration associated with Parkinson's disease (MP). In particular, Dr. Russo is also involved in the development and molecular and cellular characterization of in vitro models of dopaminergic neurons differentiated from human PC12 and iPSCs and in the study of indicators biomolecular serum from Parkinsonian patients who manifest evident neurodegenerative and inflammatory disorders. Since December 2024, Dr. Marta Russo has also held the role of Disciplinary Tutor in Molecular Biology at the San Raffaele Telematic University.
