Full Professor in Psychiatry

Valdo Ricca graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Florence on 15 March 1988 by a vote of 110/110 cum laude. On September 28, 1992, he received his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Florence with a score of 70/70 cum laude. In 1997 he obtained a Diploma in Psychotherapy Cognitive and Behavioral issued by the Italian Society of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy. Ha obtained the National Scientific Qualification as a 1st level Professor for the competition sector 06/D5 – Psychiatry in 2014. He was Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Florence from 2014 to 2019 and he has been Full Professor since 1° March 2019 at the Department of Health Sciences.
He has carried out clinical activity in the psychiatric field since his specialization period, with positions at the UU.OO. of Psychiatry of the Local Health Authorities of Arezzo and Florence. From 1995 to 2013 he worked as a Medical Director permanent level I at the Psychiatry Unit of the Careggi University Hospital.
Since November 2014 he has been Director of the SOD Complex Psychiatry of the same company.
In the academic field he was a contract professor from 1996 to 2014 in various degree courses and schools specialization of the University of Florence. He has been Director of the School of Specialization in Psychiatry since 2016 to 2023. He is currently a professor of Psychiatry in numerous specialization schools (Endocrinology, Neurology, Geriatrics, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, Plastic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Medicine of Work) and carries out teaching activities in the II level Master in Andrology at the University of Florence.
His main areas of research concern psychopathology, clinical psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. IS author of over 450 publications, of which 335 works in extenso in indexed international journals, 8 chapters on international manuals and 4 manuals in Italian. Its H-index is 56 (ISI Web of Science) and 61 (Scopus).
In the last ten years he has published 170 cited articles on Medline. He was Committee Member of Eating Disorders Section of the World Psychiatric Association and is a founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Food Psychopathology (SIPA). He is also an ordinary member of SOPSI, SIAMS and EDRS. He has served as Associate Editor of BMC Psychiatry and is currently Associate Editor of Eating and Weight Disorders. He regularly acts as a reviewer for numerous international scientific journals, including Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, American Journal of Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, BMJ, Comprehensive Psychiatry, European Psychiatry, Journal of Affective Disorders, Journal of Sexual Medicine, Psychiatry Research, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics.
