POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW

Università degli Studi della Campania - Luigi Vanvitelli

Maria Agnese Pirozzi is a Biomedical Engineer and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Campania “Luigi
Vanvitelli”. She holds a PhD in Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (Doctor Europaeus) from the
University of Naples “Federico II”. Her research focuses on multimodal neuroimaging integration, connectomics and
quantitative MRI for investigating the structure-function-metabolism interplay in human brain.
Within the national flagship project “MNESYS – A multiscale integrated approach to the study of the nervous system in
health and disease”, she develops and applies advanced computational frameworks for multiscale connectome modeling,
linking microstructural features, functional and metabolic processes, and network-level organization, across spatial and
temporal scales. Her work aims to elucidate the mechanisms of neural plasticity and cognitive regulation across
physiological and pathological conditions. Furthermore, her work bridges machine learning, radiomics and network
neuroscience, contributing to the emerging field of multimodal connectomic biomarkers.
She has authored and co-authored several papers in indexed international journals (e.g., Scientific Reports, Brain
Communications, Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Frontotemporal Degeneration, and
Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine), and book chapters with Elsevier and Springer.
She has presented her research at national and international conferences (e.g., ESMRMB, IEEE MetroXRAINE, AIMN,
GNB) and collaborates with academic and industrial partners worldwide. She previously served as a Research Fellow at
the Italian National Research Council and Visiting Researcher at Reykjavik University (Iceland). She is co-founder of an innovative start-up in biomedical 3D modeling and co-inventor of a patented anthropomorphic brain phantom for hybrid
imaging validation.
