Università degli Studi di Napoli - Federico IIDr. Ilaria Piccialli is a Researcher in Pharmacology at the Department of Neuroscience, Reproductive Sciences, and Odontostomatology at the University of Naples Federico II. After graduating with a master's degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, he earned his PhD in Neuroscience with a study of the molecular mechanisms regulating mitochondrial calcium homeostasis and their role in neurodegenerative diseases. His scientific activity focuses on the analysis of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration, with particular attention to alterations in Na+/Ca2+ exchangers and potassium channels in models of Alzheimer's disease. A further area of interest concerns the development and validation of new pharmacological targets and active molecules, including phytoderivatives and nanosystems, aimed at reducing neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation. In addition to his research activity, he holds university teaching positions in the courses of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical-Diagnostics at the School of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Naples Federico II.
