Full Professor of Pharmacology
Università degli Studi di Firenze1983: Degree in Medicine and Surgery (110/110 cum laude), 1987: Specialization in Pharmacology (70/70 cum laude), 1992: PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology, also at the University of Florence.
1989-1992: Research Associate and then Instructor in Neuroscience at the Department of Neuroscience, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York (USA).
1995-2001 University Researcher and 2001-2018 Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology of the University of Florence. Since 2018 Full Professor, Department of Health Sciences of the University of Florence.
1997-2018 Level I° Medical Director at the Pharmacology Operational Unit affiliated with the AOU Careggi, Florence, author of at least 230 reports for the Secretariat of the Ethics Committee.
Since 1998, teaching of “Pharmacology” in the following Degree Courses of the University of Florence: Medicine and Surgery (course coordinator in English), Exercise Sciences, Sports Science and Techniques, Sports Management, Food Sciences. Speaker of at least 500 degree theses.
Holder of research funding from public and private bodies. He is currently coordinator of the University of Florence for the PNRR MNESYS project (PE 12 Neuroscience).
Main (current) lines of research: (a) Neurotoxicity and neuroprotection studies in in vitro experimental models of cerebral ischemia; (b) Neurotoxicity and neuroprotection studies in in vitro experimental models of epilepsy; (c) Ethanol toxicity studies in in vitro alcohol dependence models; (d) Neurotoxicity and neuroprotection studies in in vivo experimental models of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
Author of 125 publications in international journals (total Impact Factor: 577, average Impact Factor: 4.62, Hirsch index: 50, total citations: 8970), of 22 chapters in internationally distributed books, of 264 communications at international and national conferences.
