Università degli Studi della Campania - Luigi Vanvitelli

Dr. Tommaso Nuzzo is an assistant professor (RTDa) in Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology at the
Department of Environmental, Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies of University of Campania
Luigi Vanvitelli. His training began in 2013 as a university student in Translational Neuroscience laboratory of Dr. Usiello
at Ceinge Biotecnologie Avanzate Institute (Naples, Italy). In this period, he acquired knowledge and technical
background on the in vivo characterization of schizophrenia-related mouse models. After graduation, Dr. Nuzzo was
selected for a PhD program in Biomolecular Sciences at the Università della Campania “L. Vanvitelli”, which allowed
him to continue his research activities. During this period, he acquired a solid background in neuroscience aspects of
mouse behaviour, molecular neuropharmacology, mechanisms of glutamatergic neurotransmission and related signaling
pathways. In 2017, Dr. Nuzzo worked as a post-doc researcher in the Translational Neuroscience laboratory directed by
Dr. Usiello at IRCCS-Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy). Here, he acquired robust expertise
in analytical detection of neuroactive D- and L-amino acids through technical approaches based on their
enantioseparation, such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In 2019, Dr. Nuzzo began his postdoctoral
research in the Laboratory of Translational Neuroscience, directed by Dr. Usiello, at CEINGE—Biotecnologie Avanzate
(Naples, Italy). In 2023, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor (RTDa) in Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical
Molecular Biology.
