Full Professor

Barbara Monti is Full Professor of Physiology and Director of the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology of the Alma mater studiorum - University of Bologna. He received his PhD in Cell Biology and Physiology in 2001 from the University of Bologna and did research periods at Brown University (United States, 1999-2000) and Lund University (Sweden, 2008). His teaching activity concerns physiology and neuroscience, with thesis supervision of numerous Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral students, as well as various research fellows and post-docs. Prof. Monti's research focuses on cellular neurobiology, with a focus on interactions between glial cells and neurons in neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders. She is the author of approximately 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, with over 3,000 citations and an h-index of 33. He carries out review activities for international journals and participates in panels of scientific evaluations for national and international bodies. In addition to her research and teaching activity, Prof. Monti has held important roles in the University: she was President of the University Equipment Commission and Delegate for Research Equipment and Infrastructures (2021-2024), as well as being part of numerous academic commissions and the Academic Senate (2018-2021). He is a member of several national and international scientific societies.
