Dottoranda in Neuroscience
Università degli Studi di GenovaDoctor specialist in Neurology and doctoral student in Clinical and Experimental Neuroscience.
Since my university years, I have been interested in clinical management and research in the area of neuromuscular diseases, with a focus on peripheral neuropathies and sural nerve biopsy. In recent years I have expanded my interests to small fiber neuropathy, developing both histological and neurophysiological skills.
My specialization thesis in Neurology was dedicated to innovative methods for the neurophysiological study of small fibres. I have also gained experience in the use of immunofluorescence skin biopsy for the evaluation of small fibres and for the identification of pathological deposits, such as alpha-synuclein, thanks to a period of training at the IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences in Bologna.
My doctoral project focuses precisely on the neurophysiological and histological study of small fibers also applied to hereditary neuropathies, such as cerebellar ataxia syndrome, bilateral vestibular neuropathy and areflexia, hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A. Currently, I am carrying out a research fellowship at Harvard University, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA, USA) under the supervision of Prof. Roy Freeman, to deepen the use of skin biopsy in study of small fiber neuropathy, autonomic nervous system disorders and in the search for amyloid deposits
and other pathological proteins. Member of the following scientific societies: European Academy of Neurology (EAN), Italian Society of Neurology
(SIN), Peripheral Nerve Society (PNS) and Italian Association for the Study of the Peripheral Nervous System (ASNP).
