Full Professor
Università degli Studi di Bologna - Alma Mater StudiorumElisa Magosso is a Full Professor at the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering “Guglielmo Marconi”, University of Bologna, Italy. She has been engaged in numerous research projects, also holding positions of responsibility, and maintains extensive scientific collaborations both nationally and internationally. For many years, her research has focused on modeling the cardiovascular and respiratory systems under various pathophysiological conditions. More recently, her interests have shifted towards computational neuroscience. In this field, she develops biologically inspired neural networks to model sensory and cognitive processes, with a particular focus on multisensory integration and its impairments in pathological conditions (e.g., neglect and hemianopia). In addition, she is involved in the advanced analysis of brain signals and other physiological signals employing techniques such as cortical source estimation, connectivity analysis, and explainable artificial intelligence. These methods are applied to investigate the neural bases of cognitive processes (e.g., attention and working memory) and motor functions (e.g., reaching and reach-to-grasping), as well as the alterations in brain mechanisms associated with altered states of consciousness (e.g., sleep and coma) and the effects of brain stimulation. Her scientific production currently includes over 170 publications, comprising more than 90 papers in international journals and more than 40 extended abstracts in international conferences.
