Here he undertakes a first research project aimed at identifying the genetic and molecular bases of Autism Spectrum Disorders. This is the main research topic he continues to cover at the University of Bologna, where he has been professor of genetics since 1999. It contributed to the identification of specific genes implicated in risk autism and understanding the genetic complexity that characterizes autism spectrum disorders, too participating in international consortia (Autism Genome Project). He has obtained research funding from various bodies (including PRIN-PNRR, PNRR, Telethon, European Union, Ministry of Health) and has co-authored over 80 publications in international journals He carries out an intense teaching activity at the University of Bologna as holder of various courses in the field of Degree Courses Biotechnology (LT), Health Biology (LM), Genomics (International degree). Carries out activities tutoring of students and doctoral students and is a member of the Teaching Board of the PhD in Cellular Biology and University of Bologna Molecular. At the same University she carries out institutional activities as Course Coordinator degree in Biotechnology (2022-2025) and the Degree Course in Genomics (from 2022 to today)
