Dario Lucente is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli". His research focuses on the
application of statistical physics and stochastic thermodynamics to biology and neuroscience, with a particular emphasis on
describing neuronal processes as non-equilibrium physical systems.
Within the MNESYS project, he develops stochastic models for neuronal network dynamics, aimed at quantifying the energy
dissipation, temporal irreversibility, and entropy production associated with brain activity. Specifically, his work focuses on
population dynamics, such as the Wilson-Cowan model, to analyze how the balance between excitation and inhibition
influences the maintenance of non-equilibrium steady states. Furthermore, he develops theoretical and computational models
to reproduce the activity measured in neuronal cultures, which exhibits the coexistence of synchronized activity and neuronal
avalanches whose size distribution is power law.
Previously, he conducted research on non-equilibrium systems at the CNR - Institute for Complex Systems, after earning his
PhD in Physics from the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (2021). He holds a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics from
Sapienza University of Rome.
He has authored over 15 international publications in statistical physics and complex systems journals (including Physical
Review Letters, Physical Review Research, and the Journal of Statistical Mechanics). His recognitions include the Poster
Prize in Biological Physics at StatPhys29 (2025). He serves as a referee for Physical Review journals, a Guest Editor for a
special issue of Entropy (MDPI), and was a co-organizer of the international conference "Interdisciplinary Challenges in the
Physics of Complexity and Life 2025" (IntCha25) at EMBL Heidelberg.
