Time-Determined Researcher Type A

Università degli Studi di Napoli - Federico II

Maria Pia Lenza is a scientific researcher with a solid background in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Microbiology. His expertise includes protein expression and purification in bacterial and mammalian systems, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and in vitro immunological assays. He has developed his career in international and interdisciplinary European research settings. Dr. Lenza currently serves as a Researcher in Microbiology and Medical Microbiology at the University of Naples Federico II. His research is mainly devoted to the gut–brain axis and the role of the microbiota in modulating host immune responses. It studies microbial biomolecules and glycoconjugates, with particular attention to their biosynthetic pathways, structural characteristics, and biological activities. A central aspect of his work concerns the analysis of how bacterial components such as lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and capsules influence inflammatory processes, activating or inhibiting specific pathways. By integrating simple models of protein–ligand interaction with complex cellular systems, it aims to unravel the molecular mechanisms through which the microbiota regulates immune responses and affects neurological health. This research provides crucial contributions to the understanding of inflammatory processes and opens potential perspectives for the development of novel therapeutic strategies targeting microbiota–host interactions. Dr. Lenza is the author of over 15 scientific publications and has actively participated in international collaborations. He has presented his findings in more than 15 oral and poster communications at scientific conferences, demonstrating strong communication and outreach skills. With proven expertise in project management, teamwork, and innovation, Maria Pia Lenza continues to deepen her study of the microbiota–gut–brain axis, aiming to transform this knowledge into new diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities in the field of biomedical sciences.
