Associate Professor
Università degli Studi di Napoli - Federico IIProfessor Francesca Lembo graduated in Biological Sciences in 1997 with honors from the University of Naples “Federico II”. He received his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Genetics in 2002 from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology ”L.
Califano” of the University of Naples “Federico II. In 2002 she became a researcher at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Naples “Federico II”. In 2006 Associate Professor in the SSD MEDS-03/A “Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology” role currently held at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Naples “Federico II”. In 2020 (2018-2020 session) he obtained the National Scientific Qualification as a First Level Professor in the SSD sector MEDS-03/A “Microbiology and
Clinical Microbiology”.
He has published over 60 articles in high-impact international journals and participated in numerous national and international conferences. His research focuses mainly on the analysis of gut microbiota profiles in neurological pathologies, particularly neurodevelopment, and on the identification of microbial markers associated with pathophysiological parameters.
Professor Lembo's main lines of research include: 1) studying the profiles of the intestinal microbiota in neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism spectrum disorders 2) deciphering the role of the intestinal microbiota in the pathogenesis of neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, particularly epilepsy and Parkinson's disease 3) pharmacological and nutritional control of dysbiosis related to central nervous system disorders, such as mood disorders and neurodegenerative diseases 4) microbiota-gut-heart axis: microbiota profiles associated with heart failure in a mouse model of transverse aortic constriction and altered mitochondrial function 5) assessment of the effect of intestinal dysbiosis induced early in development in mouse models on the modulation of epigenetic profiles (DNA methylation) at the peripheral and central nervous system levels.
