Marco Germanotta is a biomedical engineer. In 2014, he obtained a PhD in Industrial Production Engineering from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and in the same year began working as a researcher at the IRCCS Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi.

He is currently Head of the Salerno hub of the Center of Excellence for Robotic Rehabilitation (CoE-Rehab - Salerno), established as part of the Fit for Medical Robotics Initiative, funded by the Ministry of University and Research through the National Plan Complementary to the PNRR. For the three-year period 2025-2027 he holds, for the Don Gnocchi Foundation, the role of head of the Research Line “Neuromotor Rehabilitation” in the context of Current Research, the ministerial program that supports the activities of Scientific Hospitalization and Treatment Institutes. He is also Principal Investigator of a project funded by the Ministry of Health under the Young Researchers – Finalised Research programme (SCORES: Sensory and Cognitive Outcome of Robotic Exercises in Stroke, GR-202112374896) and collaborates on several national and international projects.

His research focuses on neurorehabilitation and robotics applied to therapeutic pathways, with the aim of validating new technological solutions and promoting their adoption in clinical practice. It also deals with quantitative analysis of human movement with optoelectronic systems, wearable sensors and surface electromyography, developing methodologies and indicators to describe motor alterations and evaluate the effectiveness of different rehabilitation approaches, with a view to precision rehabilitation.

He is the author of over eighty scientific publications, including articles in international peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. Overall, his research has received more than 900 citations and his h-index is 20 (source: Scopus).
