Associate Professor
Università degli Studi di ParmaI graduated with 110/110 cum laude in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies from the University of Parma (2004), obtained a PhD in Neuroscience (2009), and earned FELASA certification for research on non-human primates (2016). In 2017, I was awarded the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor (BIO/09). Since 2021, I have been Associate Professor at the Department of Medicine and Surgery, University of Parma.
My research activity has been carried out mainly at the University of Parma, with periods at the Italian Institute of Technology; during my career I collaborated with several national and international centers (Leuven, Freiburg, Niguarda, IMAGO7). The main projects I have participated in focused on the study of the anatomo-functional organization of cortical and subcortical connections in non-human primates and their functional characterization through electrophysiological recordings. I have also take part to morphological and functional magnetic resonance studies on healthy human subjects, as well as to intracortical electrical stimulation and stereoencephalography recording studies in drug-resistant epileptic patients.
With regard to my teaching activity, I have held courses in Physiology and Neurophysiology in several degree programs (Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Orthoptics, Midwifery, Exercise Science, Radiology, CTF, Pharmacy). I have also supervised many undergraduate and PhD theses.
I am the author of 48 peer-reviewed articles in international scientific journals, including PNAS, Brain, Cerebral Cortex, Journal of Neuroscience, Neuropsychologia, with over 3,500 citations on Scholar and 2,400 on Scopus (H-index: 30 on Scholar, 26 on Scopus). I have contributed to chapters in neuroscience and physiology handbooks and encyclopedias, and have served as reviewer for high-impact journals (PNAS, Cerebral Cortex, Neuropsychologia). I have also give presentations at various national and international conferences, such as the Society of Neuroscience and the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies meetings.
