Ordinary professor
Università degli Studi della Campania - Luigi VanvitelliUmberto Galderisi is Full Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, where he leads research activities in the Department of Experimental Medicine. His academic career followed a path of progressive growth: after his doctorate in Embryology and Histology at the University of Naples “Frederick II”, he carried out research in prestigious international centres, including the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, Thomas Jefferson University and Tulane University in the United States, and the ’“Heinrich Pette” Institute in Hamburg.
Back in Italy, he contributed to the development of molecular and cellular biology as a researcher, associate professor, and eventually full professor, with a focus on cellular senescence, cell cycle regulatory mechanisms, and the role of mesenchymal stem cells in aging and regeneration processes.
In parallel, he has maintained an intense international collaborative activity, particularly with Temple University in Philadelphia, where he has been Adjunct Professor since 2001.
His scientific output has over 170 peer-reviewed publications, with more than 7000 citations and an H-index of 44. He has coordinated and participated in major national and international research projects, including FP7 European programs and PNRR projects on gene therapies and integrated systems for the study of the nervous system.
In addition to his research work, he plays an active role as a speaker at international conferences, a member of editorial boards and an inventor, with an ongoing patent on the topic of preventing cellular senescence. His work is distinguished by the interdisciplinary approach and interest towards natural compounds and their potential to modulate aging processes, with the aim of developing new strategies to promote healthy aging and counteract age-related pathologies.
