Type A fixed-term researcher
Università degli Studi di Bologna - Alma Mater StudiorumFrancesco Formaggio received his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Bologna. Since 2022, he has been a Type A Fixed-Term Researcher (RTDa) at the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology (FaBiT) of the University, in the group of Professors Stefano Ferroni and Marco Caprini. He carried out postdoctoral research at the Leibniz-Institut für Molekulare Pharmakologie/Max-Delbrück-Centrum für Molekulare Medizin in Berlin (2021-2022), dealing with the role of the ClC-2 ion channel in synaptic transmission and hypertension. He previously worked at FaBiT (2018-2021) on projects related to Fabry neuropathy, cortical astrocyte cultures, and calcium regulation in sensory neurons. During his doctorate at CNR-ISMN (2013-2016) he dedicated himself to the study of the D184E mutation of the aquaporin 4 gene. He is the author of around twenty publications in international scientific journals, reviewer for various newspapers in the sector and responsible for a project financed by the Del Monte Foundation of Bologna and Ravenna on the bioprinting of 3D models for the study of chronic pain. Since 2023 he has been a professor of Human Physiology in the Degree Course in Pharmacy and since 2024 a representative of researchers in the FaBiT Department.
