Maurizio Ferrarin obtained the MS degree in Electronic Engineering and the PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering at the Politechnic of Milan. He is Senior Researcher and Head of the Movement Analysis and Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory-LAMoBiR at Don Carlo Gnocchi Foundation IRCCS in Milan, Italy. He taught Rehabilitation Engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan and, since 2003, has been teaching Electronic Bioengineering at the University of Milan. He received the Italian habilitation as Full Professor for the sector Bioengineering.

His research interests include human movement analysis, actigraphy, rehabilitation robotics and exoskeletons, telerehabilitation and exergames, functional electrical stimulation, deep brain stimulation and motor control.

He has been PI or unit responsible for research projects financed by national (Ministry of Health, Ministry of University and Research, Lombardy Region, Telethon, ISPESL, INAIL, FISM, CARIPLO) and international (European Commission) bodies. He authored two books and more than 165 full papers in ISI-indexed journals, with a total impact factor of 420 and an H-index of 39 (Scopus), 51 (Google Scholar). He is senior member of IEEE-EMBS and founding member of the Italian Society of Clinical Movement Analysis (SIAMOC). He served in the Board of Directors of
IFESS and SIAMOC and, has been vice-President and President of SIAMOC. He served as an expert evaluator for national and international bodies and is member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Engineering in Medicine and of Frontiers in Neurology.
