Università degli Studi della Campania - Luigi VanvitelliAntonio De Luca, MD, PhD, is Full Professor of Human Anatomy at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”,
School of Medicine and Surgery, Naples, Italy. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery cum laude from the University
of Naples “Federico II” in 1991 and obtained his PhD in Human and Experimental Morphology from the University of
Bari in 1995.
He began his academic career as Assistant Professor of Human Anatomy in 1999, becoming Associate Professor in
2006 and Full Professor in 2019. Over the years, he has served as a member of the Scientific Council of the CNR
Department of Medicine, the steering committee of the CNR project “Aging: Technological and Molecular Innovations
to Improve the Health of the Elderly”, and the Ethics Committee North Campania.
Prof. De Luca’s research activity spans cellular and molecular anatomy, histochemistry, and translational morphology.
His group has contributed to understanding the structural and molecular mechanisms involved in placental
development, gastrointestinal homeostasis, and the cellular effects of antiretroviral therapies.
He has authored over 220 scientific publications and more than 300 communications at national and international
congresses. His scientific impact includes an h-index of 47 and over 7700 citations (Scopus). Prof. De Luca collaborates
internationally with the Department of Biology at Temple University (Philadelphia, USA), where he serves as Adjunct
Associate Professor.
