Dr. Lorena Coretti is a microbiology researcher with extensive experience in microbiota-host interactions. He obtained his PhD in Microbiological Sciences from the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, focusing on pathogen–host interactions, virulence factors and microbial biofilms. He subsequently received several research fellowships that strengthened his expertise in microbiota analysis and host–microbe cross-talk. His scientific activity has concerned the analysis of the microbiota in different human and animal districts aiming at the identification of microbial profiles in mouse models of pathologies and in human patients. It also investigated how pharmacological treatments and microbiota-based approaches can modulate microbial communities and re-establish host–microbiota balance. His research focuses particularly on the gut-brain axis, examining the contribution of the microbiota to brain function, neurodevelopment, and disease. More recently, his work has expanded to investigate how microbiota alterations may influence epigenetic regulation, offering new insights into the mechanisms linking intestinal dysbiosis to long-term health consequences. Dr. Coretti is co-author of 40 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, with an H-index of 22 and over 1,500 citations. In addition to his research, since 2021 he has been a professor of microbiology at the University of Naples Federico II, Department of Pharmacy, and contributes to doctoral programs with lectures on the impact of the intestinal microbiota on host health.
