Associate Professor

Università degli Studi di Firenze

Cristina Cecchi received her Master Degree (M.Sc.) in Biological Sciences (1991), her Specialization Degree in Clinical Biochemistry (1995) and her PhD (D.Phil) in Biochemistry in 2001 (XVIII cycle) at the University of Florence in Italy. Since january 2015 she is Associate Professor in Biochemistry SSD BIOS-07/A at the Department of Experimental and Clinical Biomedical Sciences of the University of Florence. She has obtained National Academic Qualification as Full Professor in Biochemistry (05/E1) and in Molecular biology (05/E2) from the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (Italy). Since 1996 she is a member of the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB).

She is coauthor of 106 publications edited by in international peer-reviewed journals (H-index 40, total citations 5100, source Scopus) and her research has been object of many communications at international and national meetings. Her research exploits cellular and molecular approaches to investigate the mechanisms by which protein misfolded aggregates cause cell dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases. The experimental approach involves animal and cell models including C. elegans nematodes, rats, and different types of cultured cells such as human iPSC-derived dopaminergic neurons, primary cultures of hippocampal and cortical neurons from rat brains, skin fibroblasts from familial Alzheimer’s disease patients.

Since 2015 she is member of the scientific board of the Doctorate/PhD Program in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Florence. She is member of the editorial board of the following journals: Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, Frontiers in Neuroscience, International Journal of Molecular Sciences. She has been Referee for many relevant scientific journals including: ACS Chemical Neuroscience, Acta Neuropathologica, Amyloid, Antioxidant and Redox Signaling, Archives Italiennes de Biologie, Brain Research, Cell Death and Differentiation, Current Alzheimer Research, Food and Chemical Toxicology, Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Molecular Biology, Journal of Molecular
Medicine, Journal of Neurochemistry, Nature Communications, Neuroscience, npj Parkinson’s Disease, Science, Scientific Reports.
