Associate Professor in Psychiatry

Giovanni Castellini graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Florence on 26 July 2004 with a score of 110/110 cum laude. On 30 October 2008 he obtained a specialization in Psychiatry at the same University with a score of 70/70 cum laude. In July 2008 he obtained a II level international Master's degree in Affective Neuroscience (University of Maastricht – University of Florence). In February 2012 he obtained a PhD in Clinical Experimentation Methodology at the University of Brescia. In January 2010 he completed four-year training in Cognitive and Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy at the Cognitive School of Florence. In March 2016 he obtained a II level Master's degree in Medical Sexology from the University of Florence. He obtained the National Scientific Qualification as II-band Professor (2017) and as I-band Professor (2023) for the competition sector Psychiatry (06/D5) and, in 2017, for Clinical and Dynamic Psychology (11/E4). From 2009 to 2012 he worked as a research fellow at the Department of Clinical Physiopathology of the University of Florence. From 2014 to 2016, he performed clinical work as a psychiatrist at the Andrology and Sexuality Medicine Unit of the Department of Biomedical, Experimental and Clinical Sciences of the University of Florence. From 2016 to 2018 he was a type A fixed-term researcher at NEUROFARBA Department of the University of Florence, subsequently belonging to the Department of Health Sciences, where since 2018 he has been Associate Professor of Psychiatry. Since 2023 he has been Director of the School of Specialization in Psychiatry at the University of Florence. He carries out clinical work as a psychiatrist at the SODc of Psychiatry and at the Andrology and Sexuality Medicine Unit of the AOU Careggi.
In the teaching field, he is a professor of Psychiatry at the Degree Courses in Medicine and Surgery, Psychology, Nursing, Motor Sciences and Professional Educator, and at the Specialization Schools in Psychiatry, Neurology and Endocrinology of the University of Florence. He is also a teacher in various first and second level university master's degrees.
He is the author of 213 works in extenso in indexed international scientific journals, 8 chapters of international and national books, and numerous articles in Italian journals. Its H-index is 43 (Scopus). He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Sexual Medicine and a member of the Editorial Board of European Eating Disorders Review. He regularly acts as a reviewer for international scientific journals, including Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, Journal of Sexual Medicine, Appetite, Psychiatry Research, Comprehensive Psychiatry, BMC Psychiatry, Acta Diabetologica. He is a member of the Italian Society of Food Psychopathology (SIPA, of which he is also a member of the Board of Directors), the Italian Society of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (SITCC), the Academy of Eating Disorders (AED), the European Society of Sexual Medicine (ESSM), the Italian Society of Sexuality Medicine (SIAMS, of which he is a member of the Scientific Commission), the Eating Disorder Research Society (EDRS), of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA) and the Italian Society of Gender Identity Health (SIGIS, of which it coordinates the Clinical Studies Commission).
