Associate Professor

Federico Carbone, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Genoa (Italy) and a Consultant in Internal Medicine at IRCCS Ospedale Policlinico San Martino. After completing his medical degree and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Genoa, he earned a PhD in Cardiovascular Biology through a joint program with the University of Geneva. His research focuses on cardiometabolic medicine, with particular interests in inflammation, obesity, and atherosclerosis.
Prof. Carbone serves as Deputy Editor of the European Journal of Clinical Investigation and has held multiple leadership roles within the European Society for Clinical Investigation (ESCI), including council membership, vicepresidency, trust member and organization of the 59th Annual Scientific Meeting in 2025. His research has been supported by national and international funding bodies, including the Italian Cardiovascular Network and Swiss foundations.
He has authored over 260 peer-reviewed publications (H-index: 38; total impact factor >1170; >4800 citations) and maintains active collaborations across Europe in translational cardiometabolic research.
