Full professor of Psychiatry
Università degli Studi di Bari - Aldo MoroProfessor Alessandro Bertolino is Full Professor and Director of the Department of Translational Biomedicine and Neuroscience (DiBraiN) at the University of Bari "Aldo Moro". He also holds the role of Director of the UOC. University Psychiatry of the University Hospital Consortium Policlinico di Bari. He previously served as Global Head of the Biomarkers and Clinical Imaging Unit at Hoffmann-La Roche, Basel, Switzerland. He specializes in psychiatry with extensive research and clinical experience in neuroimaging and the genetics of psychiatric disorders. As head of research groups in Bari and Basel, his research has focused on using neuroimaging techniques to evaluate genetic effects on brain function in healthy human subjects and in patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders. More specifically, his research aimed to translate the genetic risk for various serious neuropsychiatric disorders into systemic brain mechanisms and in the prediction of response to treatment with drugs currently on the market, as well as the identification of new therapeutic targets for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, autism spectrum disorder, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease
