Gabriella Aviello graduated with honors in Pharmacy from the University of Naples Federico II in 2003, where she also obtained the title of PhD in Pharmaceutical Science (2006) and the specialization in Hospital Pharmacy (2011). During her PhD she did a research period at the Nutrition Innovation Centre for Food and Health at Ulster University, Northern Ireland. After an experience as a research fellow in Naples (2006–2012), he undertook post-doctoral activities in international centers of excellence, including the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute at Trinity College Dublin (2012–2014) and the National Children's Research Centre at University College Dublin (2014–2016) in Ireland and the Rowett Institute at the University of Aberdeen (2016–2019) in Scotland. Upon returning to Italy, she was an RTDB researcher (2019–2022) and has been an associate professor of Pharmacology since 2023. His teaching activity includes institutional teaching on preclinical drug development and toxicological essays, as well as teaching on advanced preclinical models within national and international doctoral and master's courses. He is a member of the Internationalization Commission of the Department of Pharmacy. His research has always focused on the pathophysiology of the gastrointestinal tract, with particular attention to chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. His studies currently investigate redox mechanisms in the intestinal mucosa and the role of neuromodulation, central and enteric, in intestinal barrier function. It has secured competitive funding in the UK and Europe, in the form of fellowships and research grants. He is a reviewer of international research projects, editor and reviewer for numerous scientific journals in the field. He has published over 60 articles in high-impact scientific journals, including Nature Immunology, Gut, and Science Immunology, landing three covers.
