Funding: PNRR

The research teams operate at the Tecnopolo of Bologna - Ozzano “Rita Levi-Montalcini.
 - Cell culture laboratories operate with cell lines (SH-SY5Y, NT2D1, PC12...), primary cultures (cortical, hippocampal, cerebellar neurons), pluripotent (embryonic and neural stem, induced pluripotent), with assays on viability, differentiation, mitochondrial integrity, neuritic segmentation

- creates complex 2D (co-cultures in various conformations) and 3D cellular systems, with a focus on  making assembloids, including with the use of biomaterials
- It has a morphological studies laboratory, supported by an advanced microscopy facility (confocal laser scanning microscopy and high-content screening)
- Has a molecular biology laboratory, for expression studies (mRNA and proteins)
The Technopole hosts GLP and GCP certified laboratories, for safety and efficacy studies in “relevant environments” (TRL 5), for use within regulatory studies (AIFA, EMA, FDA)

- In vitro screening of chemicals, and drugs, with readouts in HCS
- In vitro screening of drugs and ATMPs, on 3D systems (spheroids, organoids, assembloids) from human and animal pluripotents, which reproduce pathological microenvironments
- Toxicity, biocompatibility, and efficacy of biomaterials and nanoparticles on 2D/3D cultures: toxicology,.
- Reduced use of animals thanks to advanced 3 D models, useful for preclinical and GLP standards
