Optimization of animal models for the development of innovative therapies for neurodegenrative, inflammatory/demyelinating and rare diseases with a predominantly neurological phenotype C

Funding: PNRR

The research teams operate at the Tecnopolo of Bologna - Ozzano “Rita Levi-Montalcini”.
It has an Animal Facility for housing mice and rats, including transgenic strains, with OPBA support for ministerial authorizations. The following laboratories are operational:
- The Microsurgery Laboratory creates complex and personalized animal models (disease models), using advanced instruments such as stereotactic tables, Brain Impactor and gaseous anesthesia
- The Animal Behavior Laboratory is equipped to evaluate behavioral parameters via video tracking and automated analysis: learning, memory, motor coordination, pain threshold, locomotion
- The morphological studies laboratory, supported by an advanced microscopy facility (single-point confocal microscopy; light sheet confocal microscopy)
- The molecular biology laboratory, for expression studies (mRNA and proteins)
The Technopole hosts GLP and GCP certified laboratories, allowing safety and efficacy studies in “relevant environments “ (TRL 5)

- Preclinical validation of innovative therapies and new delivery solutions for the nervous system and rare diseases
- Efficacy and safety testing of new drugs, formulations and release strategies.
- Study of behavioral effects in models of neurodegeneration, chronic pain, neurological trauma.
