Identificazione e caratterizzazione di meccanismi molecolari responsabili della neurodegenerazione in modelli di ischemia cerebrale
In this project, the experimental in vitro cerebral ischemia models described in sheet B of the same referent were used to identify and characterize molecular mechanisms responsible for neurodegeneration in cerebral ischemia models. The results of our studies have highlighted: (a) the role of cannabinergic transmission, and the neuroprotective properties of cannabidiol; (b) the neuroprotective effects of edavarone, lipoic acid and their synthetic derivatives, A2 A adenosine antagonists and antioxidants; (c) the role of S1P1 and S1P3 receptors for sphingosine-1-phosphate and the neuroprotective properties of their antagonists; (c) the neuroprotective properties of cutamesine, a sigma-1 receptor agonist.
The possibility of being able to use biochemistry, molecular biology, electrophysiology and confocal and electronic microscopy approaches makes these models very versatile tools for evaluating the morpho-functional alterations that result from a cerebral ischemic insult. These researches can then lead to the identification of new therapeutic targets under tissue damage conditions following cerebral ischemic events.
